Motorist injured in police crash

A police officer has been suspended from driving after his car was involved in a collision which left another motorist injured in Northampton.

The police vehicle was responding to an emergency call when it collided with a Vauxhall Astra on Friday night.

The male driver of the Astra was taken to hospital with a dislocated knee after the collision at the junction of Broadmead Avenue and Park Avenue North.

The two officers in the police car were not hurt, a police spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman added: "The police car was responding to an emergency call to a burglary in progress.

"As is normal, under such circumstances, the collision will be fully investigated by specialist collision investigators in our protective services command.

"The male police officer has been suspended from driving while the investigation is carried out."
