Piping leads to WWII bomb scare

Part of a Northamptonshire town centre was cordoned off after workmen found what they thought was a WWII device.

Explosives experts were called to investigate the suspect object found in George Street, Corby, in the morning.

A 100m cordon was put in place around the area and pedestrians and cars were asked to avoid the area by police.

Members of the Explosive Ordnance Department later confirmed the item was not a bomb but an old electric pipe, a Northamptonshire Police spokesman said.
