Two men were injured, one of them seriously, when they fell from a ride at a funfair being held for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The fair was being held outside the racing circuit, opposite the main entrance to the Silverstone site.

The men were taken to hospital after falling from the ride at 0110 BST.

The first man suffered serious, but not life threatening, head injuries. His condition was described as stable.

The second man, who was also taken to Northampton General Hospital, suffered minor injuries.

The Health and Safety Executive said officers had started an investigation.

The spokesman said the two men had been "thrown from a ride". He refused to give any further details.

Police said the incident would have no impact on the staging of the race.

Police said the scene had been sealed off so investigations into how the accident happened could be carried out.
