A fire has destroyed a large empty and unused wooden building at a primary school in Northampton.

Thirty four firefighters with five pumps and an aerial ladder were called to Green Oaks school in the St David's area of the town on Thursday evening.

About 70% of the building was destroyed and it took two hours to bring it under control, a fire service spokesman said.

"The fire was still smouldering in the morning and crews will check on it periodically through the day," he said.
