Grand Prix goers' sat nav warning

Silverstone from the air
A one-way system will be in place on the way to Silverstone

Motorists going to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone over the weekend are being advised to leave their satellite navigation systems at home.

Police said sat nav will be of no use to drivers as one-way systems are in place on the A43 from Friday to Sunday for the event in Northamptonshire.

Supt John Jones said: "For peace of mind, it really is better if you leave the sat nav at home on this occasion.

"I would advise drivers to get back to basics when attending the Grand Prix."

He said: "That means checking the road map before you set out and then following the signposts once you get near to Silverstone.

Theft risk

"If you do have it with you, then we would advise you to remove it from the vehicle and keep it with you on your person while watching the racing.

"But what is the point of doing that when it would be much easier and more reassuring to leave it at home in the first place?"

The A43 between Towcester and Syresham will be closed on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the Grand Prix weekend to accommodate the race traffic.

One-way systems will be in place to funnel traffic into the circuit and diversion routes are in place for all other traffic wanting to avoid the Silverstone area.
