Neighbours rescue woman from fire

A woman with multiple sclerosis was rescued by neighbours from a fire in her bungalow in Northamptonshire.

Neighbours pulled the woman to safety after the fire broke out in a bedroom of her home in Lydia Court, Rushden, on Tuesday night.

She was taken to hospital to be treated for the effects of smoke inhalation, along with another person who had been in the house, the fire service said.

A fire service spokesman said the neighbours had saved the woman's life.

Station manager Steve Stock, of Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Without the intervention of the neighbours this woman could easily have died.

"The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental as a result of smoking materials."
