Lung cancer carers group launched

A new hospital-based information and support group is to be launched for the friends and families of lung cancer patients.

Lisa Wells, a lung cancer specialist from Northampton General Hospital is starting the support group .

Families, friends and carers of cancer patients will meet monthly to chat and exchange experiences with other people in similar situations to themselves.

"They will also learn more about lung cancer issues," Ms Wells said.

"The diagnosis of lung cancer can leave people feeling isolated and frustrated at the lack of information available to them.

"This group will provide much needed information and support, in an informal and friendly setting.

"People want to understand what is happening to them and research shows that this type of help can reduce the distress that carers and other family members suffer."
