Man arrested as house siege ends

A man has been arrested after a confrontation with bailiffs ended in a siege at his Northampton home.

Armed officers surrounded the Verwood Close house at lunchtime when the man refused to leave after threatening bailiffs, a police spokesman said.

Following negotiations with police, the man gave himself up at 1700 BST and was arrested for breach of the peace and taken by police for questioning.

Two samurai swords have been recovered by police from the property.

"A siege in the Goldings area of Northampton concluded peacefully this evening," the spokesman said.

"Police were alerted to an incident at a house in Verwood Close at lunchtime, when a man refused to leave his home after issuing threats to bailiffs who had called at the address."
