Warning over 'cold-calling' scam

Residents of Northamptonshire are being warned over a series of phone calls from people who claim to be police.

Officers have received reports of calls being made from people claiming to sell advertising on behalf of the police.

Other callers have purported to be Crime Prevention Officers wanting to discuss security.

Northamptonshire Police said it does not sell advertising, adding: "Crime Prevention Officers never call to discuss matters like security."

"We would never come to your door without an appointment either," a spokeswoman added.
