Man filmed being beaten over 80p

An investigation is under way after a gang of youths beat up a young man in a row over 80p and posted a video of the attack on the internet.

The footage on the YouTube site said the attack happened in Northamptonshire and showed the victim being asked for money, pushed to the ground and kicked.

Northamptonshire Police said it would investigate the attack after the video appeared on the website on 8 May.

YouTube said its rules banned violent videos but the site was open to misuse.

The video, which has been removed from the YouTube website, takes place on a street apparently at night and there are no obvious landmarks.

Money for chips

A young man chases the victim, who can be heard saying repeatedly through the video: "I haven't got any money".

He is pushed up against a wall, then knocked to the ground by the gang, before one member then kicks him while he is lying on the pavement.

A voice heard in the video, and a comment posted with it, suggested the argument was over 80p for some chips.

Ch Insp Steve Howard, from Northamptonshire Police, said: "We are pleased this has been brought to our attention and we will look to see if it will assist us in any investigation."

A spokesman for YouTube said: "Sadly as with any form of communication, there is a tiny minority of people who try to break the rules.

"These rules prohibit content like pornography or gratuitous violence.

"If the content breaks our terms then we remove it and if a user repeatedly breaks the rules we disable their account."
