Arrests over 'suspicious package'

Two people have been arrested after a main road in Northamptonshire was closed when a suspicious package was found in a street.

It happened on Wednesday night in Isham and the A509 through the village was closed off to traffic.

An Army explosive ordnance unit later declared the package safe.

A 36-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy have been questioned by police and released on bail pending further inquiries.

A police spokeswoman said officers were investigating the incident as they believed it was a "deliberate hoax".

Supt Bob Smart apologised to local people for the inconvenience caused when the village was shut off.
