Village shut after package found

A village on a main road in Northamptonshire was closed off by police after a suspicious package was found lying in a street.

The incident happened at Isham between Wellingborough and Kettering and the A509 through the village was closed off to traffic.

An Army explosive ordnance unit later declared the package as safe.

A police spokeswoman said detectives were investigating the incident as they believe it was a "deliberate hoax".

Superintendent Bob Smart apologised to local people for the inconvenience caused when the village was shut off.
