A man who was shot by police with a Taser gun in Northamptonshire has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Police and social workers were called to an address in Belvoir Drive, Barton Seagrave, to detain the 43-year-old man under the act, on Tuesday evening.

The Taser stun gun was used after the man, became violent towards officers as they attempted to deal with him, police said.

A police spokesman said officers acted to make sure no-one was hurt.
