Residents discuss new school bids

Two bidders have expressed interest in running a new Northamptonshire school.

The county council is now inviting residents in Corby to comment on a new primary school planned for Priors Hall.

Peterborough Diocese and the Priors Hall Trust want to run the £6m school, due to open in September 2009 with 420 places for children aged four to 11.

New education laws require local authorities to organise a competition to determine who will run a new school and this has produced two contenders.

The two bidders are the education board for the Anglican Diocese of Peterborough and Priors Hall Trust, a joint venture between Woodnewton - a local foundation school - and the Brooke Weston Partnership which runs an academy in the town.

A summary of the proposals has been published on the county council's website and feedback is being invited until the end of May.

A public meeting will take place on Thursday, 1 May at the Holiday Inn, Geddington Road, Corby.

Following this consultation period, the county council's cabinet will decide which proposal to adopt.
