Briton shot dead by gang in Kenya
Map of Kenya
A Briton has been shot dead in Kenya by burglars who were ransacking his home.

Graham Warren was shot at his home near Watamu, about 150 miles (241km) north of Mombasa, Steve Curtis of the Watamu Residents' Association said.

Mr Warren, who was from Northampton and aged in his 60s, died on Friday night after apparently disturbing the gang.

Mr Warren and his wife Christine, who have lived in Kenya for a number of years, returned home after dining out with two guests from the UK.

The thieves, who were armed with sticks and at least one gun, are believed to have ordered members of the party to lie on the ground at about 2200 GMT.

Mr Warren was then shot and died at the house about one hour later.

Police are hunting the gang with the help of tracker dogs.

Mrs Warren is being comforted by friends and neighbours.

Family members are understood to be flying to Kenya from England.

Mr Curtis said: "It is a great shock. He was a wonderful man. He loved Kenya and spent two years building his house."

Mr Warren had loved to fish in the area and had spent Friday on his boat fishing with his guests, he added.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said the High Commission in Kenya was in contact with the man's family and providing assistance. No further details were available, he said.

The couple's home is set in three acres and overlooks the Indian Ocean between Malindi and Watamu.
