Council delighted with recycling
Landfill site
Northampton residents have cut the amount of waste sent to landfill
Waste collection now costs Northampton residents £43.10 a year per household, according to new figures from Defra.

Recycling is also at a high level - 24.41% for cans, plastic, newspaper and card and 16.81% for "green" waste such as grass cuttings and garden materials.

These contribute to Northampton's recycling rate of 37.22% exceeding the government target of 30%.

Councillor Trini Crake said: "It's great news residents are continuing to support our recycling schemes."

The key contributions are people regularly putting out their newspapers, tins, and garden waste for collection, Ms Crake, the council cabinet member for environment, said.

"We're making good progress but there's still more to do. We've already introduced some pilot projects to recycle glass from flats and we want to extend this scheme to collect glass from the kerbside from homes, where possible.

"Our recycling figures are down to the commitment of local residents so I send all of the town's regular recyclers my thanks and urge you to keep on with the good work."
