Teenage swimmer missing in lake
A 16-year-old boy is feared drowned after going missing while swimming with friends in a water-filled quarry.

The teenager, from the Duston area of Northampton, was with a group of friends at a barbecue near the lake at Tiffield when he went missing.

A search by police and a diving team on Sunday failed to find the boy, whose name has not been released.

A police spokeswoman said the lake is thought to be at least 70ft (21m) deep in the centre.

"Police, fire brigade and the air ambulance attended the scene together with water rescue specialists and an extensive search was conducted until it became dark," the spokeswoman said.

"Police divers from Nottingham are expected to join the search tomorrow when it resumes."

The missing teenager lived with his sister in Northampton, she added. His parents, who live in London, have been informed.
