The entrance to number 78 Derngate
|
The latest stage in the renovation of one of the most famous houses in Northampton has been completed.
The art deco house - 78 Derngate - was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and is the only example of his work outside Scotland.
Before its restoration by the 78 Derngate Northampton Trust, the house had been empty for more than 10 years.
The latest stage sees the opening of number 82 Derngate which houses a new gallery, restaurant and visitor centre.
The house at 78 Derngate was originally remodelled by Rennie Mackintosh in 1917 for the Bassett-Lowke family.
The house was Mackintosh's only domestic commission outside Scotland.
