Lib Dems to rule over Northampton

The Liberal Democrats took nine wards at Northampton Borough Council to take power in a majority administration for the first time.

Both Labour and the Conservatives lost five seats with an independent also gaining a place on the council.

The Liberal Democrats have secured a majority of five.

The last administration to have full power over the borough's management was Labour who lost to no overall control in the 2003 poll.
