Investigation into mosque attack
Representatives of a Northampton mosque are being reassured by police after the building was targeted by vandals.

A brick was thrown through the main front window of the mosque in Argyll Street on Friday evening.

House to house inquiries were carried out in the area and a witness reported seeing a group of about 10 teenagers in the area, one had a brick in his hand.

Police said high visibility patrols around mosques would continue following the attacks in London on 7 July.

Community Chief Insp Sean Bell added: "At this stage it is difficult to tell if the mosque was deliberately targeted or whether it was part of a recent spate of criminal damage in this area.

"A group of boys and girls were seen in the area and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw them or knows who they are.

"Representatives of the mosque have been spoken to and offered reassurance and officers will be continuing their high visibility patrols around mosques and other community premises as part of the ongoing reassurance work following the attacks in London on 7 July."
