Interactive art project installed
Under Scan project
The interactive portraits make shadows 'come alive'
An interactive video art project, said to be the largest of its kind in the world, was installed in Northampton's Market Square on Friday for ten days.

Under Scan is a free public project featuring 1,000 interactive portraits of people from the East Midlands, including 200 from Northampton.

The portraits are projected onto the ground and 'come alive' when the public covers them with their shadows.

Under Scan was commissioned by the East Midlands Development Agency.

Created by Mexican-Canadian contemporary artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, the giant projector will be switched on at 1900 GMT for ten nights.

Mr Lozano-Hemmer said: "I hope it will bring a new experience to Northampton people and visitors to the town, and will provide them with an intriguing shadow-play where members of the public become actors."
