Minister launches micro turbine
A micro wind turbine system at Daventry Country Park Visitor Centre in Northants was officially launched by Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks.

He said micro generation had an important role in efforts to cut the UK's carbon emissions.

Producing renewable energy at a local level was important in the fight to combat climate change, he added.

"It is vital that we promote the good work that is being done here and encourage others to do the same."

Eco-school

The centre's system is aimed at demonstrating that micro generation is viable and beneficial.

Mr Wicks said having wind turbines and solar panels in schools and homes could provide visible evidence of the value of these technologies and tangible proof that they do work.

Young pupils from Falconers Infant School were there to support the launch.

As an "eco school" the whole school community is involved in making sure that the school reduces its impact on the environment.
