Police are urging women to be vigilant while they hunt for the gang
A man has been arrested by detectives investigating a series of rapes and attempted abductions in Northampton.

The 39-year-old, who is from the town, is being questioned over three sexual assaults and two kidnap attempts.

He was arrested on Saturday night by officers hunting a gang of men said to be behind the attacks, which took place between 31 July and 8 August.

Last week the public were praised for their "excellent" response to an appeal for information.

More than 2,000 people have telephoned the police incident room about the attacks, while a special phone line set up after an artist's impression of a suspect was released received 40 calls within two hours of opening.

Three men arrested earlier this month were released on police bail pending further inquiries.
