Indian nurses come to UK hospital
Northampton General Hospital
Northampton General had a nursing shortage
Nurses from India have been employed by Northampton General Hospital in an attempt to fill the staff shortages in the town.

The nurses have just started work and told the BBC that they are delighted to be able to work in the UK health system.

In February this year senior nurses from Northampton General Hospital visited India to interview prospective nurses.

The staff are working in the new orthopaedic theatres and wards.

The NHS has been criticised for "poaching" nurses from developing countries, but the Department of Health has encouraged recruitment from countries with a surplus of nurses.

It has signed agreements which allow trusts to recruit nurses in India, Spain, and the Philippines.
