Farm damaged in 'suspicious' fire

Arsonists are believed to have started a fire which severely damaged a building at a farm in North Yorkshire.

About 25 firefighters spent the night tackling the fire in a derelict building next to a farmhouse in South Milford, near Sherburn-in-Elmet.

There were three other fires in haystacks on the farm, a North Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said.

"The type and number of fires means the cause is being treated as suspicious," the spokesman said.

The fire was discovered by the farm owners after they returned from a night out.

Firefighters were meeting police scenes of crime officers at the farm on Monday in a bid to establish the cause of the fire.
