The funeral of a father-of-three from Whitby who died in the Air France jet crash has been held.

Arthur Coakley, 61, from Sandsend, was on the flight from Brazil to France which plunged into the Atlantic Ocean on 1 June, causing 228 deaths.

His wife, Patricia, said her thoughts were with the families who did not have the bodies of their loved ones to bury.

"We are very fortunate as a family to be able to bury Art; there are lots of families unable to do this," she said.

Mrs Coakley added: "It's going to be a hard day, because then I know he's not coming home. It just feels like he's away on a business trip.

"It will be a celebration of Art, he was my best friend. We all miss him dreadfully. We will be strong, we are a strong family. We will give him the best party ever."
