Girl trapped in double flat blaze

A 17-year-old girl was trapped in an attic flat in Knaresborough which was damaged by two fires in the space of just a few hours at the weekend.

Police are trying to establish whether the fires were started deliberately.

Firefighters were first called to a blaze in the attic bedroom of the flat above the Chain Lane post office just before midday on Sunday.

Less than four hours later they were called back to the flat and rescued the girl from the bedroom.

She was taken to Harrogate District general Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and discharged soon afterwards.

North Yorkshire Police have urged anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact them.
