Drunk man rescued from river boat

A man has been rescued by firefighters after he was discovered drunk in a small polystyrene boat on the River Ouse in York.

Fire crews were called to help police after reports the man was spotted on the water at about 1145 BST on Friday.

A North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said the water rescue unit was used to pull the man and the boat to safety.

The man was spoken to by police and later released.
