Disappointment at Claudia TV plea

Claudia Lawrence
Police say Ms Lawrence may have had a "complex" private life

The father of Claudia Lawrence has spoken of his disappointment at the lack of public response to a TV plea about his daughter's disappearance.

More than 60 calls were made after reconstructions of possible sightings of the university chef were shown on the BBC's Crimewatch programme.

Peter Lawrence said he was disappointed no-one had come forward to say they were depicted in the reconstruction.

Ms Lawrence, 35, has been missing from her home in York for nearly 12 weeks.

Detectives are treating the case as suspected murder.

'Shielding someone'

Speaking at a press conference, Mr Lawrence said: "I'm expressing my disappointment. I'm sure the rest of the family feel the same on this particular issue.

"No-one has seen fit to come forward and say that any of these sightings were us and I was nothing to do with it at all, or someone else who knows who it was could have come forward."

Mr Lawrence said it was possible a member of the public was shielding someone who had information about his daughter's disappearance.

"There is no excuse for covering up what is potentially a serious investigation," he added.

Det Supt Ray Galloway has said it is vital that men who have had a relationship with Ms Lawrence in her adult life come forward to help with the investigation.

The detective said she kept some relationships secret from her family and friends.

Ms Lawrence was last seen near her home in Heworth on 18 March and failed to arrive for her early-morning shift as a chef at the University of York's Goodricke College the following day.
