City bus service to be restored

Bus services have been restored on a York estate after the council agreed to enforce parking restrictions.

The number 16 service stopped serving the Holly Bank estate in May because bus company First said parking on the route had been causing delays.

City of York Council has agreed to introduce "no waiting" restrictions at various junctions on the estate.

Residents are said to oppose the plan but councillors said the service was important for the elderly and infirm.

Councillor Steve Galloway said: "No one likes unnecessary restrictions but applying a parking ban to one side of the road effectively only regularises what happens now.

"It is impossible for two cars to park opposite each other and allow buses, emergency vehicles, delivery vans and refuse carts to pass.

"Most properties in the area already have off street parking spaces and the others have the opportunity to create space".
