House fire death 'not suspicious'

The death of a 61-year-old woman whose body was found inside a burning house in York is not being treated as suspicious, police have said.

Police and firefighters were called to the property in Whitethorne Close in Huntington late on Tuesday afternoon.

A passer-by had alerted the fire service after seeing smoke coming out of the building.

After initial investigations police confirmed there would be no criminal inquiry.

A thorough search of the house had been carried out by firefighters to make sure no-one else was trapped in the property.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "It is still too early to determine the cause of the fire."
