Woman's body found following fire

A woman's body has been found by firefighters called to a burning house in York.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and police were called to an address in Whitethorne Close in Huntington late on Tuesday afternoon.

A passer-by had alerted the fire service after seeing smoke coming out of the building.

A thorough search of the house was carried out to make sure no-one else was trapped in the property.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "It is still too early to determine the cause of the fire.

"As the fire and police investigations progress we should be in a better position to say what actually happened in the next day or so."
