Man charged over stabbing attack

A 26-year-old man has been charged with the attempted murder of a woman who suffered serious knife wounds in an attack in York.

The man was arrested in County Durham on Sunday morning - a day after the attack on a 20-year-old woman at a house in Lowther Street, York.

The woman suffered serious stab wounds to the body. She remains in a stable condition at York hospital.

The man will appear before York magistrates on Tuesday, police said.

He was arrested outside the Durham Light Infantry Museum at Aykley Heads.
