Man dies as car crashes into tree

A man has died and two others were injured when a car skidded off a road and crashed into a tree in North Yorkshire, police have said.

The accident happened on a country road between the villages of Strensall and Sheriff Hutton just north of York in the early hours of Sunday.

"A silver Mini Cooper spun off the road and collided with a tree," a North Yorkshire Police spokesman said.

Three males were in the car and no other vehicles were involved, he said.

The two injured males were taken to York District Hospital for treatment.

Police appealed for any witnesses to contact them.
