Pedestrian killed in road crash

A 55-year-old man has died after being hit by a car as he crossed a road in North Yorkshire.

The collision happened on the A59 York to Harrogate road at Flaxby Moor at about 1745 GMT on Saturday.

The man, from Wetherby, was taken to Harrogate District Hospital but later died from his injuries.

Police are asking witnesses or anyone who saw the man walking on the carriageway to contact them. The car occupants were uninjured, police said.
