New £2.4m fire station unveiled

A new £2.4m fire station opens in a North Yorkshire town on Monday.

Harrogate's old station in Skipton Road has been knocked down to make way for a new building which houses six engines.

The Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire will join firefighters, school children and local residents at a celebration to mark the opening.

Visitors will be given a tour of the new station, see fire safety demonstrations and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.

Chief Fire Officer Nigel Hutchinson said: "This new fire station is very much designed to be a community fire station as well as a modern base for additional emergency vehicles which now operate out of the station, including a high volume pumping unit for use at widespread flooding incidents.

"I am confident that this new fire station will provide huge benefits to the service and its partners, to help us become even more accessible to local communities and to address local needs."
