City honour for returned regiment

Soldiers from a North Yorkshire-based regiment have celebrated their return from Germany and Iraq with a march through York.

The Royal Dragoon Guards marked the return by exercising their freedom of the city, awarded in 1999.

The regiment has been based in Germany for the past eight years, but has returned to Catterick Garrison after completing a three-month tour in Iraq.

They were sent to Basra to mentor and train the Iraqi Security Forces.

About 200 officers and soldiers took part in the parade, which started at York Minster.
