Tributes after former Bishop dies

The former Bishop of Ripon and Leeds, the Rt Rev David Young, has died at the age of 76.

The Church of England's lead bishop for education, he was Bishop of Ripon for 22 years until his retirement in 1999.

A spokesman for the diocesan office said he had "an overwhelming enthusiasm for education".

His successor, the Rt Rev John Packer, said he had "a profound effect on the the diocese through his pastoral care and generous self-giving."
