Arrests as cannabis factory found

More than 200 cannabis plants have been uncovered during a raid on a house in York, police said.

Officers raided the house in Hob Moor Terrace after a tip-off. Thousands of pounds worth of cultivation equipment and 246 plants were seized.

North Yorkshire Police said the "highly sophisticated" factory was the largest ever seized in the York area, and had an estimated street value of £100,000.

A 51-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman have been arrested and bailed.

A police spokesman said the pair were from Hornsea, East Yorkshire, but were believed to be the owners of the house.

Det Con Ben Bowles said it was "highly pleasing" that a member of the public who had suspicions about the property had contacted police.

He appealed for anyone else with information to come forward.
