Raw sewage released into harbour

Whitby Harbour
The company says it is trying to reduce the impact of the spillage

Raw sewage has been released into the harbour of one of North Yorkshire's top tourist attractions.

Engineers from Yorkshire Water have been working to fix a fault at the Endeavour Wharfe pumping station at Whitby after the leak.

The untreated waste was discharged through an emergency outflow on Monday evening, the company said.

Yorkshire Water said it was working with Scarborough Borough Council to reduce the impact of the spillage.
