A man has been airlifted to hospital after falling at a waterfall on the North York Moors.

The incident happened at the 70ft Mallyan Spout in the village of Goathland on Saturday afternoon.

A rescue helicopter from RAF Leconfield in East Yorkshire was sent to the scene when an ambulance crew was unable to reach the casualty.

The man was airlifted to Scarborough District Hospital, but his condition is not known.

A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said a mountain rescue team was also sent to the scene, which is well known as the location for much of Yorkshire TV's Heartbeat series.
