Helicopter search for missing man

A major search and rescue operation is under way after a man went missing in North Yorkshire.

Police said 47-year-old Peter Young was last seen by his family at their home in Scorton near Richmond on Friday.

Volunteers from Swaledale Mountain Rescue and helicopters have been scouring the area around Scotch Corner where Mr Young is thought to have been.

Police said he had been suffering from depression but his disappearance was out of character.

He is described as white, 5ft 10in, of medium build with green eyes and short, mousy-brown, greying hair.

He was last seen wearing dark blue jeans and a dark blue jumper.

Although he is pictured wearing glasses, police believe he did not have them with him.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Officers are appealing for anyone, including motorists or people using public transport who may have seen Peter in the Richmond or Scotch Corner area, including anyone who may have given him a lift, to please get in touch.

"Or better still, if Peter is reading this or hears this appeal, please get in touch with Richmond Police, or your family and friends, and let us know that you are safe."
