The proposals will be discussed by council planners next month
Plans have been unveiled for a new £40m council headquarters in York.

City of York Council wants to reduce the number of office buildings it uses from 16 to four, to make it simpler for people to contact the authority.

The new five-storey headquarters, to be built in Hungate, would house 1,400 staff and include a customer service centre and have disabled access.

The council plans to retain The Guildhall, St Anthony's House and 50 York Road, Acomb.

A council spokesman said much of its other office accommodation was in historic buildings which could be released and restored for more appropriate use.

Council staff will be given a glimpse of the plans over the next few days. The proposals are expected to go before the council's planning committee next month.
