Gales have caused lorries to overturn on the A1 in the past
Police have issued a warning to motorists after nine heavy goods vehicles overturned in high winds in North Yorkshire.

The A1 was closed to high-sided vehicles between junction 61 at Bowburn, County Durham, and junction 49 at Dishforth in North Yorkshire.

Lorries overturned on the A1 between Catterick and Scotch Corner, while others were blown over near Wetherby.

A wagon overturned on the A6108 in Richmond. No one has been badly hurt.

Police have urged motorists, particularly drivers of heavy goods vehicles, to take care on the roads.

A van crashed into the central reservation on the A1 near Leeming, in what police said was also a weather-related incident.

The A66 is also closed to high-sided vehicles.
