Territorial Army soldiers marched through the streets of York on Saturday to celebrate the formation of the new Yorkshire Regiment.

The soldiers, from Yorkshire and Middlesbrough, are from the 4th Battalion, the only TA battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment.

They marched from Duncombe Place to the city's Museum Gardens.

The formation of the new regiment follows a decision to restructure infantry units.

The top Territorial Army officer, Maj Gen The Duke of Westminster, joined the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Lord Crathorne, the Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Janet Hopton and the High Sheriff of York, Viscountess Downe, at Saturday's parade.

The 250 soldiers were inspected by Lt Gen, Nick Houghton, the new Col of the Yorkshire Regiment.

The parade was followed by the 21-gun Royal Salute which was fired to celebrate the 85th birthday of the Duke of Edinburgh.
