Council to decide on flood plan
Flooding in York
The 2000 floods were the worst in York since records began
People who live in a part of York which was badly affected by flooding six years ago will find out if their homes are to be protected.

Councillors will meet on Thursday to discuss whether to put temporary flood defences in Clementhorpe.

About 40 properties on Lower Darnborough Street, River Street and Colenso Street were flooded in 2000.

Another 50 families were cut off and the council said the damage to homes cost in the region of £40,000.

The barrier is being offered to the council by a company specialising in flood defences as a free trial.

The experiment has the support of residents and the Environment Agency.

The 2000 floods were the worst in York since records began and the River Ouse reached a height of 17ft 8.5in (5.4m) above its normal summer level.
