'Ugly go free' at tourist exhibit
Justin Hawkins, The Darkness
Justin Hawkins is a "celebrity minger", say dungeon bosses
York's ugliest visitors are being given the chance to secure free entry to one of the city's attractions - as long as they don't scare other tourists.

Volunteers will be judged against photos of "celebrity mingers" such as Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins, Kelly Osbourne and rugby star Martin Johnson.

But the really hideous will be refused entry if they outstrip the scariness of the exhibits, York Dungeon bosses said.

"We don't expect very many people to pass," spokeswoman Amy Burns admitted.

Those that do, will be urged to wear a customised paper bag over their heads while they are in the queue.

Organisers said they were confident most people would treat the event as harmless fun.

"The whole thing's very tongue-in-cheek and not designed to insult or humiliate anyone," said Ms Burns.
