Maize maze in record breaking bid
The York Maze 2005
The maze has been created from a crop of 1.5m plants
A farmer has created what is believed to be the largest maze of maize in the world, using 1.5m plants in the shape of Big Ben and Parliament.

Tom Pearcy said the York Maze was designed to mark the 400th anniversary of the Gun Powder Plot in 1605. Guy Fawkes was born in York in 1570.

At 200ft (61m) in diameter, the maze's clock face alone is nearly 10 times the size of the real thing.

The maze is on the A1079, off the A64, and opens to the public on Saturday.

Covering 24 acres, it is being considered for the title of the world's largest temporary crop maze by the Guinness Book of World Records.

It claims to beat the current record holder by seven acres.

Visitors will be able to find their way around the maze by answering clues from a series of giant talking sculptures.

The maze will close in September so the crop can be harvested to feed the cows.
