Public to have a say on booze ban
Residents in York are being asked for their views on proposals for an alcohol ban in parts of the city in a bid to stop anti-social behaviour.

York City Council wants to stop people drinking on the streets of Exhibition Square and Bootham.

If approved, the ban will start in April 2006. It allows police to confiscate alcohol and those arrested face fines of up to £500.

Residents have until 9 January to have their say on the proposals.

The exclusion zone will also cover King's Manor Gardens, Manor Lane, land around the perimeter of the City Art Gallery and St Leonard's Place.
