Inspectors examine new motorway
A1 traffic
The new road is meant to speed-up journeys through Yorkshire
Consultants have been asked to examine another section of the A1 through North Yorkshire - just one week after repairs started at a separate 5km stretch.

Damage was found on parts of both carriageways of the A1 motorway between Wetherby and Walshford last week.

Experts have now been asked to look at the section between Micklefield and Brotherton, near Sherburn in Elmet.

The Highways Agency said no problems had been found and the inspection was being carried out as a "precaution".

Repairs to the damaged section between Wetherby and Walshford is expected to last two months.

The road opened in December 2004 with two lanes in each direction and a 50mph speed limit while work continued on verges and hard shoulders.

About £250m is being spent upgrading the A1 to motorway status between Darrington in West Yorkshire and Dishforth in North Yorkshire.
